A Brief Intermission From Chaos

A Brief Intermission From Chaos

Yesterday finally showed up, acting like it had some manners, and brought Micah a few genuinely encouraging updates.

His swelling is significantly less in his arms today, which is a huge relief to see. His Blood Urea Nitrogen and Creatinine numbers are also better today. We need those numbers to continue trending downward, but seeing them move in the right direction is a win.

His alertness level is noticeably higher, too. He is able to turn his head more and fixate his eyes with intention, almost as if he is trying to communicate with us in his own limited way. He is also finding us with his eyes no matter where we are in the room, which feels like a big dang deal every time it happens. We still need the encephalopathy to keep decreasing so his mind can begin functioning normally again, but these moments of recognition mean a lot.

There is still an issue with the blood flow to his right arm. It is a bit restricted and causing some abnormal circulation, but the team is watching it closely. Overall, though, he is doing pretty well. Obviously, that comes with a giant salt lick, but for where he has been, we will absolutely take “pretty well.”

We shared something new with him today, too. We started a GoFundMe for his recovery, and his favorite musician and long-time idol, Mike Vennart, shared Micah’s story with his entire music community. Even more incredible, all proceeds from this week’s Bandcamp sales are being donated to Micah’s recovery. It is beyond generous, and honestly, something Micah would never believe if we weren’t watching it happen in real time. Thank you to those have already given so freely and those that have shared and reposted about Micah's story. We appreciate your support so much! It's fun to see how many people (especially from across the pond!) love Micah or love him through Mike. Thank you. Thank you!

We played Vennart’s video message for him at his bedside, and Micah made a visual response. His eyes locked in and he shifted his head, and it genuinely felt like he understood what he was hearing. It was one of the clearest reactions we’ve seen so far.

Right now he needs time. Rest and time. And as we all know, most healing happens when the body is resting. So that is what we are giving him.

And of course, we watched Dodgeball today because, why not? If you can dodge death, you can dodge a ball… and Micah is still out here dodging like a Globogym pro.
