A Chance, However Small

A Chance, However Small

Today, we truly believed we were preparing to say our final goodbyes. Everything pointed toward there being nothing more the team could do, and we were trying to make peace with that reality.

But then things shifted.

Over the weekend, Micah improved quite a bit on his own, small but meaningful signs that his body hasn’t fully given up. His coloring was better, and breathing a little easier (mostly because of the medication). The medical team has noticed it too, along with the constant presence of his support system. They see how many people love him, how many of us are here every day, and how willing we are to walk through this hardship together. It matters. It’s part of why they’re still trying.

Earlier today, Micah was evaluated by a cardiac surgeon, the liver transplant specialist, and several other surgeons. After reviewing everything together, they believe there might be a way to repair the damage done during the last procedure, specifically the injury to his carotid artery. If they can fix that, there’s a chance they can move forward with the dialysis he desperately needs to clear the toxins from his body.

It’s a very small chance. The risks are still incredibly high. We’re staying realistic, but we’re also holding onto every bit of hope we can. If the team feels he’s strong enough, they may take him to surgery today.

So for now, we’re waiting, hoping, praying, and choosing to try every option available. Micah has surprised us before. He’s still fighting, and so are we.

We’ll share more as we know more. Please keep him in your thoughts.
