Micah: 1, Odds: 0

Micah is out of surgery and it went extremely well!!

The surgeons were able to repair the damage from the previous procedure and successfully place a new line for dialysis. There was minimal bleeding, and he only needed two units of blood, which is far less than anyone expected going into this.

The doctor told us the surgery went a lot better than he anticipated. Given how risky this was and how close we were to losing every option, this is a huge, unexpected win.

If everything continues to look good, they should be able to start dialysis soon, finally giving his body the chance to remove the toxins that have been holding him down for so long.

We’re relieved and so incredibly grateful. Micah still has a long road ahead, but today he cleared a hurdle none of us were sure he’d survive.

Thank you for every prayer, message, thought, and bit of hope you’ve sent our way. It made today possible. I’ll share more as we know more, but for now, he made it through!

**Update:6-2**

We were finally allowed back to see Micah, and he’s doing well.

His coloring already looks a little better, and because he’s still lightly sedated, his breathing isn’t nearly as labored over the ventilator. It’s the calmest and most stable he’s looked in days. Just seeing him like this gave all of us a little room to breathe too.

His surgeon and the entire surgical team were truly excellent. We learned that the original damage did not go into his carotid artery after all. Instead, they accessed the area through the subclavian vein, which explains why the bleeding was minimal and why the surgery went so much smoother than expected. It was the safest route, and it clearly made a difference.

For now, he’s resting and recovering from the procedure. If everything continues moving in the right direction, dialysis should be able to start soon, the next huge step we’ve been desperately hoping for.

This was quite the turn of events from how we started the day, but we will certainly take this outcome!
