The Toxin Takeover
Essentially, we need him to wakey, wakey, eggs n' bakey...
I wanted to share a little more about what’s going on with Micah and why he still isn’t waking up. His biggest struggle right now is something called hepatic encephalopathy. His liver is too sick to filter out toxins, especially ammonia, the way it normally would. When those toxins build up, they reach the brain and slow everything down, making it really hard for him to wake up, even though he’s not on sedation anymore.
A simple explanation is that the liver and kidneys are the body’s filters, and right now both of Micah’s filters are clogged. His liver can’t clean the toxins from his blood, and his kidneys aren’t able to get rid of them through urine the way they should.
Because of this, Micah will be starting dialysis soon. Dialysis will act like an external filter to help remove some of those toxins from his blood and take some pressure off his kidneys. This should also help with the encephalopathy over time.
Waking up is the next big step we’re hoping for, and getting these toxin levels down is a huge part of helping him get there. Thank you all for the love and support.
